Faith Healing
William M. Branham (1909-1965)
Branham would become a central figure in the large tent revival campaigns that took place between 1947 and 1957.
Branham’s most famous healing occurred during an evening prayer meeting in Los Angeles, California on May 2, 1951. He relayed a vision to the audience, of a young man falling from a hay stack and breaking his back. The boy would never walk but would grow up to become a famous author and politician. William Upshaw, a former Congressman who had been confined to a wheelchair for 66 years, was in the audience and indicated that he wanted to speak with Branham. He asked the preacher how he could know the details of his personal tragedy. Branham replied, “I can’t tell you, sir. I can only say what I see.” A little later in the evening, Branham again saw a vision of Upshaw only this time he was walking. Branham proclaimed, “The congressman is healed.” Instantly, Upshaw who had been confined to a wheelchair for most of his life stood on his feet and walked towards the pulpit.
