Creating the Concept
As the playwright creates his/her concept, a plan is established to help develop what happens in the story and to whom. All plays have the same plot structure, which outline key events in a story:

a. A situation is established
b. A conflict, or problem, arises
c. Certain events bring about a climax
d. The conflict is resolved (and the central character is often changed in some way)

The Playwright considers the following:

1. How many characters will be in the play?
2. What are the common themes in the story?
3. Where will the story take place? (Define the setting)
4. What happens in the story that will cause high-stakes, tension, and suspense? (Define the conflict)
5. What will happen at the climax and where in the play will the climax occur?
6. How will the story resolve? (Define the resolution)
7. Will the story include a narrator? (Define a narrator’s roles)
